There has been 10 percent decrease in road accidents across the country. In reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today, Road and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said, this was due to the amended Motor Vehicle Act.

The Minister said, Tamil Nadu with 24 percent decrease topped in the reduction of road accidents in the country.

Mr Gadkari informed that barring two states, rest all showed a considerable decline in the number of road accidents.

He regretted that every year more than one lakh fifty thousand people die across the country in road accidents and that the government is committed to reducing the number of causalities.
