Badminton: Sindhu, Saina and Sameer play quarters

In Badminton Asia Championships, shuttlers PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Sameer Verma will play their quarterfinal matches in Wuhan, China this evening. 

The fourth-seeded Sindhu will be playing with China’s seventeenth ranked Yanyan Cai. Saina will take on World Number 2 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

Verma has a difficult opponent in the next round as he is scheduled to go up against the second-seeded Chinese Yuqi Shi.

Earlier, shuttlers P.V. Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Sameer Verma advanced to the quarterfinal of the Championships yesterday after winning their Round 16 matches. 

In women’s singles, Sindhu, the Rio Olympic silver-medallist, defeated Indonesia’s Choirunnisa 21-15, 21-19 to advance to the next round. Saina Nehwal defeated Korea’s Kim Ga Eun 21-13, 21-13. 
In men’s singles, Sameer Verma outplayed World No. 16 Hong Kong’s Ka Long Angus in two straight games, winning 21-12, 21-19
