Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that terrorism poses a serious challenge, but India has displayed that it can disrupt and deter terrorist groups and their patrons. He was addressing the Third Defence Attachés Conference in New Delhi yesterday.
Alluding to Pakistan, Mr Singh said, the continued presence of terrorist infrastructure and state support to terrorists in the neighboring country have tested India’s patience. He added that as a responsible and powerful nation, India has displayed that it is able to disrupt and deter the activities of terrorist groups and their patrons. He assured that India will continue to do so.
Speaking on the threats in the Indian Ocean and the Indo-Pacific region, the Defence Minister stressed on the need to be more focused to secure the country’s interests. He said, the government has adopted pro-active measures to promote peace and stability in the region as well as to increase defence and security cooperation with the Indian Ocean rim countries so as to create a stable maritime environment.
On DefExpo-2020, the Minister said, opportunities will increase with the establishment of two industrial corridors in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. He added that a large country like India cannot restrict its defence cooperation to a few countries and efforts should be made to expand it continuously.
In this direction, he announced the creation of 10 new Defence Wings so that 10 more Defence Attachés could be appointed. This will further strengthen India’s defence diplomacy.
