Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commissions INS Khanderi into Indian Navy

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today commissioned the indigenously built Kalvari class diesel-electric submarine INS Khanderi possessing superior stealth and other major combat capabilities in Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, he said, it is a matter of immense pride that India is one of few countries which can build its own submarines. Mr, Singh said, Indian Navy will take strict action against those who disturb peace in our region. There are some powers who want to repeat Mumbai-like attack in Indian coastal regions but India will not allow them.

Fully automated submarine INS Khanderi is built at state-run Mazgaon Dock Limited and underwent rigorous sea trials for over two and a half years. Key features of the submarine include a state-of-the-art stealth technology which reduces its noise under the sea. Another crucial feature of the new submarine is that unlike previous requirement of 60 crew, its maximum requirement is 36 crew. It saves oxygen availability and increases its capacity to stay underwater for long periods
