FIH Series Finals: Indian Women’s Hockey team defeat Fiji to enter semifinals

The Indian Women’s Hockey team has registered an impressive 11-nil victory over Fiji to enter the semifinals of the Series Finals at Hiroshima in Japan. The Rani Rampal-led Indian side took an early lead before securing a 5-nil lead in the first quarter itself.

India’s high pressing strategy put Fiji defenders constantly under stress as they looked to play the ball out quickly. Fiji improved considerably as the match progressed, thwarting quite a few penalty corners. However, despite finding its rhythm later in the game, Fiji failed to score even a single goal.

The winner of the crossover match between Uruguay and the team that finishes second in Pool-B will face India in the semi-final. Chile leads the Pool with 6 points, while Russia and Japan are on three points each. Russia is second because of its superior goal difference.
