I&B Minister gives away excellence awards to community radio channels

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar today said that no other medium is as powerful as Radio and it has very high credibility in terms of disseminating information. 

Mr Javadekar was speaking on the Second Day of 7th National Community Radio Sammelan held in New Delhi. 

Highlighting the achievements of community radio, he said, community radio is an important tool of communication in recent times and playing a lead role in the democracy. 

Mr Javadekar gave away excellence awards to different community radio channels for their valuable contribution in sensitizing local people about their social, cultural and developmental requirements around the community. 

For the year 2019, Friends Radio, Tripura bagged the first prize in the thematic category and Salam Namaste, Uttar Pradesh got second prize in the same category. 

Our Correspondent reports, the awards were given in five categories, including Best Thematic category in Programmes, Best Community Engagement Initiative, Best Programme for Promoting Local Culture, Best Innovative and Creative Programme and Best Sustainable Model for Community Radio.
