Irrigation is huge concern, Jal Shakti Ministry formed to deal with challenge: NS Tomar

Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today lamented that no father wants his son to become a farmer.

Speaking at a function in New Delhi, Mr Tomar said a lot of thinking has to be done so that farmers do not move away from agriculture.

Saying country has made huge progress in terms of food grains production, he, however, said irrigation is a huge concern and Jal Shakti Ministry has been formed to deal with the challenge.

Mr Tomar said, most of the country’s population reside in rural areas and they will have to contribute mainly if India has to become a five trillion-dollar economy by 2024.
