In US Open Tennis, 8th seeded Serena Williams will clash with 15th seeded Bianca Andreescu for the title in the final at 1:30 AM tomorrow in women’s singles.
In semifinals, Williams defeated the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-1 while the Canadian 19-year-old Andreescu defeated Swiss Belinda Bencic 7-6, 7-5. She is the first Canadian woman to reach the US Open final.
Serena is one short of equaling Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24th singles Grand slam titles. Andreescu and Serena have met just once before – in the final of the Rogers Cup in August, with Serena quitting with back spasm while down 1-3 in the opening set.
In Men’s singles, 18th time Grand Slam singles champion, 2nd seeded Rafael Nadal will take on 5th seeded Daniil Medvedev of Russia in the summit clash tomorrow.
In the first semi-final, the fifth seed Medvedev, reached his first Grand Slam final with a tense semi-final victory over Grigor Dimitrov, 7-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In the second semi-final, Spanish world number two, Nadal beat Matteo Berrettini of Italy, 7-6, 6-4, 6-1.
