UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will attempt to persuade British MPs to back his revised Brexit deal with European Union today. EU leaders gave their unanimous backing to the deal with Britain yesterday, putting the onus on PM Johnson to secure Parliament’s approval in a vote in two-days time. British and EU negotiators reached the agreement after days of late night talks and nearly three years of heated discussions that have strained EU-UK ties.
But despite optimism from Johnson, British opposition parties and some of the prime minister’s own allies in the House of Commons were quick to warn they would not support it when it goes to a vote in a special sitting tomorrow. If the deal is defeated, the prime minister is legally obliged to ask EU leaders to postpone Brexit for a third time.
